What began as a draft set of lyrics penned by Jimi Hendrix backstage at The Upper Cut club on December 26, 1966 – originally titled “Purple Haze Jesus Saves.” The song was quickly developed in the studio when The Jimi Hendrix Experience commenced recording on January 11, 1967 at London’s Olympic Studios.  The final version of “Purple Haze” came together with additional vocals and overdubs in early February 1967. The finished single debuted on March 17, 1967 via Track Records in the UK and later appeared on the group’s sensational debut release Are You Experienced.  “Purple Haze” continues to inspire fans and fellow musicians around the globe.
