“Purple Haze’ began with a draft set of lyrics penned by Jimi Henderix backstage at The Upper Cut club on December 26, 1966 that was first titled “Purple Haze Jesus Saves.” The Jimi Hendrix Experience commenced recording on January 11, 1967 at London’s Olympic Studios, with additional vocals and overdubs completed in early February 1967.
